Biographical Note

Shortly after Briscoe took office as President of Buena Vista College, he began to correspond with Harold Walter Siebens. As a Storm Lake native and former donor to the college, Briscoe saw an opportunity in forging a relationship with Siebens. Thus began a long and occasionally contentious correspondence on a wide variety of subjects.

The bulk of correspondence involves discussions surrounding aspects of the $18 million gift Siebens made in 1980. The plans to build a first-class business school and conference center involved many exchanges of ideas and information. Even after the complex was built and dedicated in 1985, Briscoe continued to envision even greater expansion and wrote to Siebens with his ideas.
