Biographical Note

Mary Regina Gina Ghina Wind Goodfriend was born in 1976 in Ames, Iowa. At the time, her legal name was Mary Regina Goodfriend, and her parents called her Gina. She participated in dance and theatre throughout her earlier years. In high school, most of her friends took Spanish classes and gave her the nickname “Heena;” this led to her changing the spelling of Gina to Ghina. She enrolled at what was then Buena Vista College in the Fall of 1994. Upon setting foot on campus, she changed her name to Wind as a way to remind her of the invisible connection between all people and things, and that she wanted to make that connection stronger through positive change. She double majored in Psychology and Theatre. In Theatre, she participated in every mainstage play during her four years at BVC/BVU, either acting or directing. In Psychology, she participated in an early form of the Honors program and presented at several conferences. She graduated in May, 1998 with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. That summer, she married fellow BVU alumnus Clint Hughes and began graduate school in the Social Psychology doctorate program of Purdue University. Upon receiving her Ph.D., she was a professor for two years at Boise State University, then became a professor at BVU in 2006. She divorced Clint after 14 years of marriage. In 2016, she married fellow BVU professor (physics and computer science) Dr. Shawn Stone. Her legal name is now Wind Stone Goodfriend. She has won the BVU Faculty of the Year award three times, as well as the Wythe Award for Excellence in Teaching.
