Historical Note
Briscoe developed a plan that he submitted to Siebens that would eventually become known as the Siebens Proposal: Foundations for the Second Century. In the plan, he outlined his vision for a complex that would have a school of business to honor Siebens, but would include other campus amenities, in addition to a conferencing venue. When Siebens agreed to the provisions of the proposal, he donated $18 million for the venture. At the time, in May 1980, this was the largest gift per enrolled student in American higher education. The announcement was widely publicized across America. Siebens was awarded an honorary degree during this period.
