Biographical Note
Elinor L. Barber was born in Salina, Kansas on June 3, 1919; she studied at Kansas Wesleyan College (now University) in Salina. She received an M.A. degree from Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York, and her Ph.D. degree from the University of Michican, Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was employed at Buena Vista College in the early 1940s. Her name appears in college directories for the 1943-1944 and 1944-1945 academic years. She was a member of the department then known as the Conservatory of Music, where she both directed and accompanied choirs. In 1944, she took a position with Hastings College, Hastings, Nebraska, where she stayed until 1969.
In the early 1950s, she studied the music of Johann Sebastian Bach with Albert Schweitzer, and they remained lifelong friends. After she left Hastings, she became a Professor of Music at Baldwin Wallace College, Berea, Ohio, until she retired in 1984. In 1998, she moved back to Hastings and served as the college's historian and archivist. She died March 26, 2013 in Hastings.

This small collection is arranged into two series: The first series is comprised of music programs in which Elinore had some kind of part, either as accompanist, director, or performer. The second series holds ephemera from her involvement with Sigma Tau Delta sorority, a commencement program, and a college bulletin.
