Biographical Note

Luman Sampson was born December 31, 1885 in Lamont, Iowa. He earned his B.A. degree from Upper Iowa University in 1911 and his M.A. in 1912 from the State University of Iowa (now University of Iowa). He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1933 in the areas of economics, history, and sociology.

Dr. Sampson arrived at Buena Vista College in 1935, where he taught sociology. He also served as dean, registrar, and chair of the Division of Social Sciences. He retired in 1962. He died January 26, 1985 in Storm Lake, Iowa.
