John Madsen papers and framed objects collection
Content Description
Two framed objects. One is a mock-up of a front page of The Tack, featuring information about John Madsen and focusing on his career at BV and his impending retirement in 1999. The other framed object is the Trustees' Circle Print by local artist, Dolores Cullen. Numbered prints were given to offices and faculty on campus.
The paper items in this collection include Dr. Madsen's recollections of his hiring and first years at Buena Vista, and a letter to Madsen from Margaret Thatcher.

Biographical Note
John Madsen taught at Buena Vista College, which became Buena Vista University in 1995, from 1973-1999, although a newspaper account says he worked until 2000 and another states he retired in 2002. He was born October 26, 1939 in Finlayson, Minnesota. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees from UW-Whitewater and his Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. After his retirement, he and wife Sandra Madsen, who also taught at BV, moved to Rock Island, Illinois. He taught at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, from 2005-2013. Madsen died May 28, 2014.
